The Endowment for Catholic Education

"We continue to provide our students with an education rooted in the Catholic faith - marked by academic excellence and high expectations."

Dr. Catherine Hickey
Secretary for Education
Superintendent of Schools

Since the early 1800s, our Archdiocese has offered an education that is rich in religious values, marked by excellence and accessible to a broad range of socio-economic backgrounds.  In fact, students who look to us for instruction, both in and outside New York City, often come to us from financially disadvantaged families.

Yet today, because we strive to make this education available to every child of God who comes to our doorstep, many of our schools struggle to make ends meet while maintaining tuition levels that are affordable.  Our religious education and formation programs are likewise strained by the overflow of students who are unable to benefit from our elementary schools and high schools.

The Endowment for Catholic Education is designed to provide our education institutions with a constant source of assistance.  Specifically, this endowment will provide financial support for initiatives including the capital needs of our schools, curriculum coordinators, extended day instruction, and a Principals' Leadership Academy.  Additionally, the endowment will allow us to expand and improve the reach of our religious education and formation programs, including catechesis development and youth ministry programs.

This Endowment for Catholic Education will ensure that we will be able to continue to teach our youth in ways that will allow them to become future leaders and citizens who are guided by faith and reason.
